Youth Service, 2010-11: Initial Headline Results

The latest statistics on the Youth Service in Wales, produced by the Welsh Government were released on 1st November 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

These headline statistics include figures about youth service members, accreditations, projects and workforce for Wales for the period April 2010 - March 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Over 115,000 young people were members of the Youth Service in Wales. This figure represented 19 per cent of the population of 11 to 25 year olds in Wales;
  • Around 10,400 young people received a nationally recognised accredited outcome during the year, representing 9 per cent of Youth Service members;
  • In March 2011, there were 943 full-time equivalent (FTE) Youth Service management and delivery staff working across local authorities in Wales. 10 per cent of these FTE posts were in management and 90 per cent were in youth work delivery posts.

Please note that this Statistical Release will now only contain headline data from the 2010-11 survey, this is to allow further time for validation. A further statistical bulletin will be published in December.
