The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 25 September 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 31 December 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 17 July 2009.

Fires

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 38,000 fires and false alarms in the year ending 31 December 2008, a decrease of 15 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 8 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties

  • There were 21 fire deaths in Wales in the year ending 31 December 2008, down from 26 in the previous period.
  • There were 310 injuries from fires and a further 330 sent for precautionary checks in the year ending 31 December 2008.

False Alarms

  • In the year ending 31 December 2008, there were 18,800 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of 4 per cent from 19,600 in the previous period.
  • There were 1,500 malicious false fire alarms during the current period, a decrease of 5 per cent when compared with the previous period.
