Delayed Transfers of Care, July 2009

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date 15 July 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 28 July 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

• The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 15 July 2009 was 446; this is an increase of 7, or 1.6 per cent, on the figure for 17 June 2009.
• The total number of patients waiting to leave the NHS was 312.  Of these, 72 were delayed in mental health facilities and 240 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 79 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment and for 55, the next stage could not be determined.
• The median length of delay for patients waiting to leave the NHS was 34 days.
