Time spent in NHS Wales Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments: quarter ending March 2013

Statistics include data for Wales for April 2012 to April 2013. The latest release updates the official statistics previously released on 30 August 2012.

Key results from the latest release are:

• 84.3 and 85.9 per cent of patients spent less than 4 hours from arrival until admission, transfer or discharge in March and April 2013, respectively
• 93.3 and 94.5 per cent of patients spent less than 8 hours from arrival until admission, transfer or discharge in March and April 2013, respectively

All figures relating to April 2013 are provisional.

A wider user consultation on the content and timing of our statistical outputs, seeking views as to how frequently we should publish these official statistics (quarterly, annually etc) and querying whether the earlier publication of the management information caused the users of our statistics any problems was conducted in 2012. The results were published in April 2013.   As a result of the consultation and feedback from users, Welsh Government are publishing the official statistics in this quarterly Statistical First Release. This is in addition to the monthly management information being published by NWIS.

This quarterly release includes data for April 2013, due to the timing of this release. However, in future, releases will only include monthly statistics up to and including the current quarter.
