This report summarises the sources and methods used to compile the road accident and casualty figures.

Road traffic accidents reported to the police and involving personal injury.

During 2011 there were around:

  • 6,400 personal injury road traffic accidents; involving
  • 11,300 drivers of motorised vehicles; resulting in
  • 9,400 casualties. Of these casualties:
    121 were killed
    1,126 seriously injured and
    8,159 slightly injured
